The Saint-Sulpice Church became famous all over the world after being featured in The Da Vinci Code. Alongside runs Rue Saint-Sulpice, where the Saint-Germain-des Pres and Odeon neighborhoods, while being in the middle of the extremely prosperous Left Bank section of Paris, still manage to maintain an atmosphere of serenity. Here you will find the recently refurbished (in June 2007) Hotel Odeon St. Germain. The hotel’s black façade, hung with old-style lanterns, truly evoked for us the chic appearance of one of Paris' small hotels when we visited. |

A collaboration of 16th-century architecture with the period of Jacques Garcia

The Hotel Odeon St. Germain’s building was actually constructed back in 1530! There may be a lot of old buildings in Paris, but you won’t find many dating back to the 16th century, making this one a real treasure. That being said, do not imagine for one moment that everything in the hotel is ancient. While the positive aspects of its older construction, like the stone floors, wooden beams, and ceiling height, remain the same as they were, the refurbishing performed in June of last year outfitted the entire place with modern amenities. In charge of the design were not only the Costes brothers, but also well-known interior designer Jacques Garcia. This fusion of traditional and modern, along with its baroque style, have definitely given this hotel some genuine charm. For the traveler who wants to experience a true European atmosphere, but without giving up the latest facilities, this hotel is the perfect answer.

In a small hotel with a total of 27 rooms, you would probably expect those rooms to be pretty cramped. But within moments you will forget that you are even inside a hotel, because the rooms will make you feel at home. It may be a-3 star hotel, but the service and equipment are worthy of a 4-star, which is bound to please you. You won't find the kind of impersonal service seen in a chain hotel, or in one of the smaller budget hotels here in Paris. The staff, all smartly attired in suits, will greet you in a professional and courteous manner.
Naturally, the hotel provides standards like air conditioning, mini-bars and safes, as well as free internet (on the hotel PCs, and starting late April 2008, WiFi throughout the building). A full range of bathroom amenities is also to be found, such as shampoo, body soap, bar soap, shower caps and combs. Most rooms even have bathrobes (and if yours doesn’t, just call up the front desk for one). And since there’s an abundance of lighting in the room, you’ll be able to brighten it up when you want to write a postcard, or dim it a little when it’s time to relax, to your heart’s content. For the adventurous, one of the junior suites is equipped with a Turkish bath, so if you’re interested be sure to mention it when you make your reservations.
The thick doors shut out the sounds from the hallway, while for rooms facing the street, the triple windows (comprised of a regular window as well as a double-layered storm window) block outside noise, making every room nice and quiet. A third of the rooms face the interior courtyard, and the street by the hotel does not get a lot of traffic, so even people who are sensitive to noise will be comfortable.
The chic dining room, where a buffet style breakfast is served, is yet another charming feature of the hotel. Just reading a list of what they offer (croissants, chocolate pastries, pound cake, gingerbread, fruit salad, spiced pears, prune tea cake, brie cheese, hot beverages, freshly-squeezed orange juice and grapefruit juice) is enough to whet your appetite.

A great location that you definitely won’t regret
|
This hotel’s charms don’t end with the rarity of their service and amenities. The location is just as great. Because so many aspects of choosing the “right” hotel are subjective, it is difficult to ever use words like “definitely” when writing about them. But this hotel’s location is so attractive, we feel confident enough to say that you definitely won't regret it. Being in the beautiful 6th district of Paris, a place even native Parisians love to visit, means that easy access to shopping and sightseeing spots is only the beginning. The surrounding area has lots of cafes, restaurants and movie theaters, making this a hotel about which we can confidently say that anyone who loves Paris and the Left Bank will not regret choosing.
You’ll be a short walk away from Saint-Germain-des-Pres, Odeon, Luxembourg Park and the entire Latin Quarter. It is also an easy stroll to Notre Dame Cathedral on Ile de la Cite', to the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay and the Bon Marche department store. The nearby Odeon metro station is only about a minute away on foot, and from there lines 4 and 10 will take you directly to Montmartre, Chatelet, and Montparnasse.
The street the hotel is on, Rue Saint-Sulpice, also features boutiques like Maje and Vanessa Bruno, and interior decorator shops like Catherine Memmi. You'll also find Muji, a very popular store with the French, and the famous sweets and breads of Gerard Mulot on nearby Rue Seine. Pierre Herme can be found on Rue Bonaparte, near Saint-Sulpice Plaza. And close to Saint Germain metro station, you will find Monoprix supermarket. It really is not an exaggeration to say that you will have all the ingredients for a perfect trip to Paris.
Near the hotel, there are plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes, like the famous Italian shop Marco Polo, the stereotypical bistro Vagenende (which is listed as a historical structure), Le Comptoir du Relais (which we have introduced elsewhere on the site), and the leading seafood specialty restaurant on Saint Germain Boulevard, Le Bar a Huitres. If you have any questions, just ask at the hotel, and if you need reservations they’ll help you make them so you can have a fun, gourmet night out.
