This page is here to answer some of the questions that may come up during your use of Cahier de Paris Hotel. Please take a look at it before using the site. Just click on a question to be taken directly to its answer.
Is it possible to store larger luggage at the hotel before check-in or after check-out?
I am arriving in Paris at 7 AM and will be to the hotel by 9 AM, but the check-in time is 1 PM. Do I have to wait until 1 PM to check-in?
If I am arriving early in the morning or late at night, will the front desk still be open?
I will be staying in Paris for two nights, going to Mont Saint-Michel for a night, then coming back to Paris for three more nights. During the time that I’m not going to be in Paris, would it be possible to leave my suitcase at the hotel?
Is breakfast included with the room charges? Also, what is provided in a typical French hotel breakfast?
How is the decision to rate a hotel as a 2 or 3-star establishment actually made?
Is there a shuttle bus between the hotel and the airport?
Does the hotel have power transformers and outlet adaptors to lend its guests?

It appears the hotel has no A/C. Does this mean it also has no heat? I’m concerned because I plan to travel there in the winter.
Is there a bathtub in the bathroom?
Please tell me the average size of a guest room.
What are “connecting rooms”?
Is it all right to assume that having a minibar equals having a refrigerator? Is it possible to take out the drinks that are already in there and put in beverages and food that I have brought?
Is it possible to book a “double room” for just a single person?
Is there a teapot in the room?
Is there a public phone in the lobby?
What are the typical amenities supplied? Do they include a toothbrush or pajamas for example?
Are there internet connections available in every room?

I used the online reservation system to make my reservation, but did not receive my reservation confirmation email.
I received my reservation confirmation email, but after putting in my credit card at the very end of the process, I got an error message, so I’m worried that something went wrong.
The online reservation page is giving me garbled text; is this alright?
After completing my online reservation, I immediately canceled it with the proper procedure, but my credit card had already been charged. Why is that?
How should I go about asking for a room with a bathtub, or two separate beds, or any other special request?
A room I saw in the online reservation system a month ago for €120 had gone down to €100 when I saw it today. Since the room is exactly the same, why has the price changed? Also, is it possible to get that difference refunded to me?
Since I’m planning to stay in Paris for one night, then go to London for two nights before coming back to Paris for three more nights, if I make two separate reservations through the online reservation system, I’ll have to pay the reservation-handling fee twice. Is there any way to avoid this?
Even though I selected a Triple room on the online reservation page, I get an error when I put “3” in the field for number of guests.
Which credit cards can I use in the online reservation system?
After canceling a reservation, will my refund be directly deposited into my account by the hotel?
While using the online reservation system I received an error. What should I do?

Is the price displayed per person, or per room?
Why do some rooms have a range of prices, like “€60-80"?
What do the phrases “Single Occupancy” and “Double Occupancy” on the table of charges mean?
Nights Package、Weekend Promotion
How are the charges for Rack Price, 3 Nights Package, Weekend Promotion, etc. different?
Where is the cancelation agreement written out?
After completing my online reservation, it said that the amount of one night’s stay would immediately be charged to my credit card, and that I would pay the total at the hotel during checkout. But I don’t actually pay the full amount, do I? It will just be the remainder after taking out the one night I have already paid for, right?

Is it inadvisable to bring small children to a hotel in Paris?
I am bringing a small child with me. Is it possible for him/her to sleep in a double bed along with two adults?
Do you have baby cribs available?
Do you have additional, children-sized beds available?

What is the difference between Cahier de Paris Hotel and Petit Hotel de Paris?
I just can’t decide which area of Paris I should book a hotel in...
If, after arriving at the hotel in Paris, they have no record of my reservation, have mistakenly booked me in the wrong kind of room, or some other problem of this sort, what should I do?
I am traveling alone, so I am especially concerned about the safety of the area I’ll be staying in. Do you have any recommendations?

For any detailed requests you have, enter these in the Comment field in the online reservation system :
  ・ I would like a room with a bathtub.
・ I would like a twin room.
・ I would like a room facing the courtyard/street.
・ I know what time I will be checking in.

Is it possible to store larger luggage at the hotel before check-in or after check-out?
It is possible. They will hold it for you at the front desk.
I am arriving in Paris at 7am and will be at the hotel by 9am, but the check-in time is 1pm. Do I have to wait until 1pm to check-in?
Think of check-in time as the time when the room preparations will be finished. As long as the front desk is open, you will be able to arrive and complete the check-in process, but it may mean that you won’t be able to actually get into your room at that time. In the event that you cannot go up to your room, you will still be able to leave your bags at the front desk and head out for some sightseeing.
If I am arriving early in the morning or late at night, will the front desk still be open?
Most of the front desks are open 24 hours a day. However, it does differ depending on the hotel so please read the Facilities and Services field for each hotel carefully to confirm that they will be available. It is a good idea to let the hotel know what time you expect to arrive when making your reservation, even if their front desk is open 24/7.
I will be staying in Paris for two nights, going to Mont Saint-Michel for a night, then coming back to Paris for three more nights. During the time that I’m not going to be in Paris, would it be possible to leave my suitcase at the hotel?
Yes. However, since you will be leaving the premises for a time we cannot guarantee you will be put in the same room during your second stay. Also, because it is necessary to make the first half and he second half of your stay at the hotel as two separate reservations in the online system, you will be charged the €5.60 reservation handling fee twice.
Is breakfast included with the room charges? Also, what is included in a typical French hotel breakfast?
Typically, hotels in Paris do not include the cost of breakfast with the room charges, but they instead make it a special fee added on to your total, so be careful about this. However, since it is not necessary to make reservations for the breakfast ahead of time, you can request it even after arriving at the hotel. The basis is much like the simple continental breakfast you may be used to, featuring bread, coffee, juice, yogurt, etc. Because hot breakfast items like eggs, ham, and bacon are not usually included, please check the individual hotel’s page to see what their breakfast entails and then send them any special requests you may have. If you did not request breakfast when you made your reservation, the charges for it will be added to your total at check-out time.
How is the decision to rate a hotel as a 2 or 3-star establishment actually made?

They are rated based on 22 checkpoints decided by French law. An inspection is made of the hotel’s structure, the number of rooms, their respective sizes, and whether or not it has features such as elevators, air-conditioning, bathtubs, etc. Then its star rating is determined. Because this places so much emphasis on the hotel’s facilities, not much attention is paid to the quality of the hotel’s service and staff interaction. Here are the criteria concerning room size :

Number of People 2 Stars ★★ 3 Stars★★★
1 (Single) 8m² or more 9m² or more
2 (Double) 9m² or more 10m² or more
3 (Single) 11m²  or more 12m² or more
4 14m²  or more 15m² or more

Is there a shuttle bus between the hotel and the airport?
Many hotels have an arrangement with a shuttle service. However, since most of them require you to call after your plane has arrived, or will not wait to pick you up if your flight is delayed, it is not something we really recommend. That being said, it is very convenient to have someone greet you at the airport to pick you up. Please confirm whether or not the hotel offers a shuttle service before making your reservation. Be aware that the shuttle services are occasionally canceled because not enough customers have signed up for them.
Does the hotel have power transformers and outlet adaptors to lend its guests?
Very few of the smaller hotels have transformers and adaptors that you can borrow. In fact, it is somewhat difficult to find one in Paris at all, and if you do, the price is likely to be quite high.

It appears the hotel has no A/C. Does this mean it also has no heat? I’m concerned because I plan to travel there in the winter.
There really aren’t any hotels in Paris that have no heating, so you can put your mind at ease on this point. In hotels with no air-conditioning, the heat will typically be either central heating (meaning you won’t have temperature controls in your room) or, in special cases, an electric heater.
Is there a bathtub in the bathroom?
Most hotels either have rooms with a shower/bath combo, or rooms with just a shower. If you would like a room with a bathtub, be sure to request one by writing it in the Comments field during the reservation process. However, please be aware that depending on the particular situation of any given day, it might not be possible to satisfy your request.
Please tell me the average size of a guest room.
You can tell the average size of a hotel’s room by seeing how many stars it has. (This does not include the bathroom.)
Number of People 2 Stars ★★ 3 Stars★★★
1 (Single) 8m² or more 9m² or more
2 (Double) 9m² or more 10m² or more
3 (Single) 11m²  or more 12m² or more
4 14m²  or more 15m² or more
What are “connecting rooms”?
These are two rooms that are connected by a door. As these will also have two complete bathrooms, they are great for families or big groups traveling together.
Is it all right to assume that having a minibar equals having a refrigerator? Is it possible to take out the drinks that are already in there and put in beverages and food that I have brought?
Yes. Normally the minibar is just a small refrigerator with such items as mineral water and soft drinks in it. So it is easy to take them out and replace them with the drinks you have brought with you, to cool them down.
Is it possible to book a “double room” for just a single person?
Of course this is possible. Since there are some hotels that don’t even offer Single Rooms, then it is necessary to book individual travelers into a Double Room. However, the Single Occupancy rate may not apply. Some hotels charge the same whether there are one or two guests staying in the room, so be careful about this.
Is there a teapot in the room?
This is not typically a service offered in these smaller Parisian hotels. However, some hotels will lend them out on request, while others can supply boiling water, so please be sure to check the introductory page for the hotel you are interested in.
Is there a public phone in the lobby?
The recent trend is that most small hotels have no public phones available. Please use the telephone in your room by dialing an outside line and calling directly.
What are the typical amenities supplied? Do they include a toothbrush or pajamas for example?
At the 2-star level, the majority of hotels offer soap and shampoo. Additional amenities (like conditioner and body lotion) available at 3-star hotels vary so widely that it really is not possible to say. Please refer to the introductory page for the hotel you are interested in. Items such as toothbrushes, pajamas, and slippers are not often available even at high-end hotels.
Are there internet connections available in every room?
Most hotels offer ADSL and/or WiFi (wireless internet). Some hotels offer this as a free service, while others charge an additional fee for it (by selling access cards at the front desk); please check the introductory page for the hotel you are interested in.

I used the online reservation system to make my reservation, but did not receive my reservation confirmation email.
After you complete your booking, you will receive a reservation confirmation email in English but it can occasionally take a few hours to arrive. If you do not receive this email, it is likely due to one of the following reasons:
1). During the reservation process you entered your email address incorrectly.
2). Some kind of error occurred in the system and your reservation was not finalized,
or it was not communicated to the hotel.
Regardless of the reason, please contact Cahier de Paris Hotel as soon as possible. Especially if the cause is the second option and that your reservation was not finalized, for it could happen in such a case that you would arrive at the hotel only to find that they do not have any rooms available.
I received my reservation confirmation email, but after putting in my credit card at the very end of the process, I got an error message, so I’m worried that something went wrong.
If you receive an error message after entering your credit card information, it is possible that the system processed the reservation, that you received the confirmation email, but that the hotel did not actually receive the necessary information. In this situation, if it is left unhandled, you could arrive at the hotel only to find that they do not have any rooms available. So, in order to confirm that your reservation has been properly processed, please be sure to contact Cahier de Paris Hotel as soon as possible.
The online reservation page is giving me garbled text, is this alright?
The online reservation system may occasionally give you garbled text, but if you set your browser’s encoding to American it should solve the problem. As this does not affect the ability of the system to function, there is no need to worry.
After completing my online reservation, I immediately canceled it with the proper procedure, but my credit card had already been charged. Why is that?
When you use the online reservation system, the handling fee and down payment will be charged to your card the moment the booking is finalized. Therefore, even if you immediately cancel the reservation, it will take 1 to 2 days for any refunds to be processed back into your account. As the amount of money you will be refunded depends on the hotel, please be sure to read the online reservation agreement beforehand.
How should I go about asking for a room with a bathtub, or two separate beds, or any other special request?
For this sort of specific instruction or request, clearly write a message in either English or French and enter it into the Message field of the online reservation system. However, please understand that depending on the specific circumstances of any given day, not all requests can be met.
A room I saw in the online reservation system a month ago for €120 had gone down to €100 when I saw it today. Since the room is exactly the same, why has the price changed? Also, is it possible to get that difference refunded to me?
Depending on the hotel, the season, and the number of days left until your stay, there may be a “Special Summer Discount Rate," a "Last Minute Rate" or something to that effect. One month earlier, the Last Minute Rate didn’t apply, but if you put in a reservation only a week before your check-in date, it could then be in effect. Unfortunately, the details and charges of a reservation you have already completed through the online system cannot be altered after the fact. You can cancel your reservation and then begin a brand new booking, but any cancelation charges will apply and the reservation-handling fee is non-refundable. Also, there may not be any vacancies available, so please be careful in these situations.
Since I’m planning to stay in Paris for one night, then go to London for two nights before coming back to Paris for three more nights, if I make two separate reservations through the online reservation system, I’ll have to pay the reservation handling fee twice. Is there any way to avoid this?
Sorry to say, but there is no way around paying the handling fee twice. However, because most hotels offer discounted internet rates that are available through the online reservation system, you will normally save money even if you pay the fee twice.
Even though I selected a Triple room on the online reservation page, I get an error when I put “3” in the field for number of guests.
As this is a problem with the system, just select “2” as the number of people in that field, and then write a brief note in the Comments field saying that you will actually have a total of 3 guests, and that will take care of it.
Which credit cards can I use in the online reservation system?
Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Of course, after using one of these cards to make your reservation, each hotel may offer other options for paying the balance of your charges at check-out time. The cards they accept will be mentioned on each hotel’s introductory page.
After canceling a reservation, will my refund be directly deposited into my account by the hotel?
Refunds will not be listed under the hotel’s name, but rather as SECURE BOOKING. Please be aware that it can take up to one month for refunds to be completed.
While using the online reservation system I received an error. What should I do?
If you have not yet put in your credit card number, then the reservation has yet to be finalized, so just try using the page one more time. If you receive the same error again, please write a detailed description of the situation and what hotel you were booking at the time, and send it to Cahier de Paris Hotel. If, however, you have already entered your credit card number, then please contact Cahier de Paris Hotel immediately so we can check on the status of your reservation from this end.

Is the price displayed per person, or per room?
When it is not specified, the posted price is for one room. For example, a Double Room priced at €100 per night will be for two people, making it €50 per person.
Why do some rooms have a range of prices, like “€60-80 Euros"?
Because the room charges can change depending on the season. Click on the Book Now link on the table of charges to verify the fees for the season during which you wish to travel, the online reservation system.
What do the phrases “Single Occupancy” and “Double Occupancy” on the table of charges mean?
Single Occupancy means having only one person using a room, while Double Occupancy means having two people using the same room.
How are the charges for Rack Price, 3 Nights Package, Weekend Promotion, etc. different?
In addition to the standard fees, or Rack Price, many hotels will have special discounts during certain seasons of the year depending on demand. These are the 3 Nights Package (a discount on bookings of three or more nights) and the Weekend Promotion (a discount on bookings just for the weekend). Because the discount rates may also come with different conditions than the regular fees, please be sure to read the Usage Agreement carefully ahead of time. Also, to check and see what discounts, if any, will apply during the time that you wish to travel, just click on the Book Now link on the table of charges, and enter the time in which you plan to be there in the online reservation system.
After completing my online reservation, it said that the amount of one night’s stay would immediately be charged to my credit card, and that I would pay the total at the hotel during checkout. But I don’t actually pay the full amount, do I? It will just be the remainder after taking out the one night I have already paid for, right?
In those instances when a hotel requires a down payment, regardless of how many nights you must prepay, you will not be double-charged that amount when you pay the balance during check-out. You will only have to pay the remaining amount. Unfortunately, there may occasionally be front desk staff who did not, or were unable to, check how much you paid in advance. So it is very important that you print out the English reservation confirmation email and bring it with you, as this will display the amount of your down payment. Since this confirmation email doesn't just prove that you have a reservation, but also serves as evidence of your payments, please be sure to print out a copy and bring it with you on your trip.

Is it inadvisable to bring small children to a hotel in Paris?
As long as your children don’t do a lot of screaming and running around the hotel, it is really not a problem at all.
Is the cost of a child’s breakfast half that of an adult?
While some hotels will only charge half as much for children, others will base it on how much they actually eat, while still others will simply charge the same for children as for adults. While this may be mentioned on each hotel’s introductory page here, it is best to check with the staff once you actually arrive.
I am bringing a small child with me. Is it possible for him/her to sleep in a double bed along with two adults?
Typically, according to the country’s laws concerning hotel safety, the number of people allowed to stay in a single room is restricted. Therefore, it may not be possible to book a Double Room and have two adults and one child all sleep in the same bed. In that case, you will want to request an additional bed for a Double Room, or just go ahead and book a Triple Room. Similarly, many hotels will not allow one adult and one child to sleep in a double bed in a Single Room, so you will have to either get one with a twin bed or book a Double Room. Of course, depending on the hotel, they may make exceptions by taking into account the child's age, so please email the hotel with your questions before making your reservation. Also, most hotels offer the use of a baby crib free of charge. Please check the “Provisions for bringing children” on the introductory page of the hotel you are interested in.
Do you have baby cribs available?
Most hotels do have baby cribs to loan out free of charge. Please check the “Provisions for bringing children” on the introductory page of the hotel you are interested in.
Do you have supplemental, children-sized beds available?
Please check the “Provisions for bringing children” on the introductory page of the hotel you are interested in to see if they offer these and what, if anything, they charge for them.

What is the difference between Cahier de Paris Hotel and Petit Hotel de Paris?
They’re both sister sites of Cahier de Paris, but these are the main points on which they differ:
Petit Hotel de Paris: A Japanese language site introducing you to all of Paris’s smaller hotels.
Cahier de Paris Hotel: A site that leans towards recommending hotels that meet the needs of the Japanese traveler.
Cahier de Paris Hotel was created to gather a listing of hotels that give a high level of satisfaction, in response to Petit Hotel de Paris, which had so many hotels listed that it was far too difficult to choose one.
At Cahier de Paris Hotel you will find more detailed information on the facilities and services offered at the hotels, as well as bigger photo galleries, giving you more to base your decision on than Petit Hotel de Paris.
I just cannot decide which area of Paris I should book a hotel in...
It’s said that all of Paris would easily fit within the Yamanote line of Tokyo’s subway system, so it’s not really such a big city. By using the metro, you’ll have convenient access to all of the sightseeing spots regardless of where you’re staying. Also, the different districts all have varying atmospheres that you’ll want to enjoy as well, to make your trip the best it can be. If you are concerned about the prices of hotels near the center of the city being too expensive, then you can pick one just a little farther out that has a more reasonable cost. Just choose whatever best fits your style of traveling.
If, after arriving at the hotel in Paris, they have no record of my reservation, have mistakenly booked me in the wrong kind of room, or some other problem of this sort, what should I do?
Just in case this sort of problem might arise, please be sure to print out the reservation confirmation email you received after completing your booking online, and bring it with you to the hotel. If you are told that they have no record of your reservation, or they have assigned you to the wrong kind of room, just show this email to the hotel staff and they will sort everything out for you.
